DESCRIPTION
Behind the Blue Penguin House is accommodations with a difference. In an idyllic setting that is both peaceful and private, next to a babbling creek surrounded by native bush and ferns, this has been dubbed as “Cottage Creek Retreat” - it consists of a caravan with a solid wooden lean-to that has been built on a large deck with a covered second tier extension offering great outdoor living.

Features Description

Down a winding concrete path over an arched bridge which is hidden by trees, you'll find a purpose-built utility with shower, toilet, kitchen sink, clothes rail, older automatic washing machine and a second fridge. Built off the side of the utility is a covered area with bricks underfoot, this contains a long stainless steel sink bench with hot and cold running water.  The caravan itself is used as the bedroom, has carpet on the floor and curtains on the windows, a double bed with mosquito net, dresser and a small built-in wardrobe.

Surrounding Description

Once a thriving gold mining town, Kuaotunu is located approximately 15kms north of Whitianga on SH25. North facing beach with good swimming, snorkelling, and the surf can be excellent off the Blackjack Point. The rocky outcrops can be good for shell collecting, the 2kms stretch of beach is popular for walks. There is a boat ramp, and some excellent fishing, surfcasting and diving spots.

Nearby Attractions Description

Bush walks via a walkway on the Waitaia Road leading to an abandoned gold mine with glow-worms and the Kiwi Sanctuary. The river and lagoon is ideal for children. A general store including liquor, petrol, LPG and dive tank refill facilities.
